How to Get Started

First appointment- Initial Exam

We want to learn about you and your concerns. How do your concerns affect you and the way you live? The initial/first appointment last approximately 30 minutes and includes a brief review of the patient’s dental and medical history and an initial examination by
Dr. Ma. At the end of the appointment you will be informed if orthodontic treatment is necessary.

Second appointment- Diagnostic Records

If orthodontic treatment is needed diagnostic records are the next step. The records include photographs, x-rays and mounted models on an articulator (an artificial jaw simulator). This appointment will last approximately one hour and may be scheduled after the initial consultation.

Third appointment- Treatment planning

Normally the third appointment is scheduled one week after the diagnostic records are obtained. This allows time for a careful and thorough review of the records by Dr. Ma from which she can make a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. The purpose of this conference is to discuss the findings; talk about the treatment options (pros and cons) agree on a treatment plan. The treatment coordinator will discuss insurance coverage and finance options with you.  This appointment may take 30 to 45 minutes.

Fourth appointment- Starting Treatment

Treatment plans vary so there can be many different first steps to start treatment. The appointment can vary from 45 minutes to more than 2 hours. Typically, this is the appointment when braces are placed on the patient’s teeth. Subsequent appointments are based on the individual treatment plan.
